Windows live messenger

Alrights ppl, pardon this post, it’s just a note.

I just fixed an error with my Windows Live Messenger. It basically stops you from signing in and tells you the the service is unavailable or something of that sort. Error code: 8e5e0158

The solution to this error is difficult to find, as googling it doesn’t help much. Upon trial and error and some lucky trial, i found that the solution to another error, error 80072ee6 works for this too!! You have to reregister a directory file.

Here’s the solution:

To reregister the Msxml3.dll file on your computer:

  1. In Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER.

    — or —

In Windows Vista, click Start, click in the Start Search box, and then type command prompt. Under Programs, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

  2. Type %windir%\system32\regsvr32 %windir%\system32\msxml3.dll, and then press ENTER.
  3. When you receive the confirmation, click OK, and then close Command Prompt.
  4. Wait a few minutes, (this is important folks, my comp needed ~1 minute) and then try to sign in again.
